Even as a young woman Poker has always been my passion. Maybe its the luck of the draw mixed with the thrill of bluffing a poor hand just to walk away with all the chips, or the plethora of games you can play while still keeping with a general idea of Poker. The way the chips clink against each other, the cards feel in your hand, and the felt under your fingertips. I don’t know anything else like it, let alone anything that can be as much fun and make money. I don’t know exactly what it is about Poker, but it’s intoxicating. Its something any Poker player can explain and other people just don’t get. I think Texas Hold’em is in the blood as well as on the brain of any good player.
I learned to play as a younger woman and decided to set my sights on becoming the next big Poker star. I mean more and more women are being shown on the big stakes Poker tournaments, even in Texas Hold’em so why not? A woman is just as capable of winning high stakes Poker tournaments, even against men who have been playing for as long as I’ve been alive. It’s time for some new blood in the Poker world. And I think I’m just what they have been looking for. I mean everyone likes to watch charismatic, young people playing Poker over old men playing. There are a couple women playing high stakes Poker tournaments these days and I imagine the ratings for the televised ones are higher as long as they are still playing. I’m not sure how many other young women want to be Poker stars, let alone how many other French young women, but so long as I make it I don’t mind being an oddity.
Lately I have been working on learning more Poker strategy. There are so many things to learn about games such as Texas Hold’em especially when oftentimes I am translating from English into my native French. It can make it a bit more complicated but I’m more than up to the task. I started with the simple Poker games, and am working my way through, looking into the nuances of each game and how Poker strategy fits in each. There are so many different things to focus on from what hand is the best, how to play out each one, and what types of bets pair well with each hand. I also replay hands played on televised Poker tournaments to see how I might have played then compared to how the players did. Sometimes I do better then they did, other times not so well.
I’ve also been playing alot of Poker and Texas Hold’em specifically to work on my actual playing skills as well as the Poker strategy from reading books, blog posts and articles online and in Poker magazines. Luckily people seem to really enjoy playing Poker so its not hard to find enough people to make it worthwhile to work on my Poker strategy. It really helps to work on my Poker strategy such as people’s tells and body language and what most players are likely to bet on regardless of their hand or only regarding their hand. Poker can be such a complex game and Texas Hold’em has added even more facets. It’s really important to me to be able to figure out a way to figure out if the other players have a decent hand or not before I bet, so I play a lot of Poker to work on my skills. Not everyone is easy to read, but almost every person has a tell while playing Poker, it may just take a bit more to find it. Some people play with their hair, or tap their finger, or some other nervous habit. Some just hold their cards closer. When I’m not playing myself I like to watch games or Poker on television. I figure if I can pick out the tells on the really professional Poker players I will be ahead of the game when I get to the big stakes Poker tournaments one day. I love casino-royal.
It’s not always easy to work on becoming the next big Poker star. People don’t always take you seriously, especially when you are a young woman and not a man. Every time I don’t lose or get knocked out of a tournament first is a success for me. Poker is more than a hobby to me; it’s like a second job I’d like to turn into a full time job. I’d love to be able to say Poker and Texas Hold’em is my job. How much fun would that be? I wonder if they offer college courses in Poker strategy. I guess I’ll just have to keep doing it the hard way. One Poker hand, one Texas Hold’em game, one win or placing at a time. It may not be the most fitting thing for a young woman to do, but it’s sure a lot of fun to beat the men and watch their surprised faces when you take home all the chips.
While working on my Poker Strategy I decided to make a blog at poker-lady.com so people could learn more about me and my rise (hopefully) to fame. Lots of people have blogs about their pets and hobbies and Poker is mine. I love to share my love of Poker and Texas Hold’em. Who knows I might even share some of the Poker strategy I am learning. But not too much, or I’ll be giving secrets to the competition. I’d love to encourage more people to play Poker, as it’s such a fun game. You don’t even have to play for money. You could play for chores or tokens to earn a fun night out. Your imagination is the limit. I may have some more to learn about Poker and Texas Hold’em but I know I’ll make it because failure is not in my vocabulary. I can do this for myself and other women who want to become Poker stars and play high stakes Poker.
